Raymond P. Bancroft
October 29, 1929 - May 10, 2013
WEST BOYLSTON Raymond P. Bancroft, 83, passed away on Friday, May 10, 2013 at Oakdale Rehab and Skilled Nursing Center after an illness.

He leaves his wife of 62 years, Marilyn J. (Gunnard) Bancroft; a son, James R. Bancroft and his wife Linda of Braintree; three daughters, Diane L. Lee and her husband Daniel of Holden, Cynthia A. Goodhile of Holden and Susan L. Grignon and her husband Thomas of Spring Hill, TN; six grandchildren, Danielle Pape and her husband Michael, James Grignon and his wife Leah, Nicole Cogswell and her husband John, Chelsea Bancroft, Alexis Czyzewski and her husband Paul and Lauren Troup; four great-grandchildren, Conor and Adriana Pape and Dylan and Logan Czyzewski; several nephews and nieces. Raymond was predeceased by a brother, Robert Bancroft and a son-in-law, Arnold E. Goodhile.

He was born in Holden, the son of Freeland M. and Verna (Dand) Bancroft and graduated from Major Edwards High School in West Boylston. He was a sergeant with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. After serving his country, Raymond went to work for Baldarelli Brothers, Inc. where he worked for 58 years before retiring in 1991. He was a member of the First Congregational Church and the Harold N. Keith American Legion Post 204, both in West Boylston. A hardworking family man, Raymond loved to spend time with his family and friends. He was an avid New England sports fan and loved to walk around town and on the beaches of Florida.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday, May 13, in the Miles-Sterling Funeral and Tribute Center, 100 Worcester Road, Sterling. A memorial service for Mr. Bancroft will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 14, at the First Congregational Church in West Boylston, 26 Central Street, West Boylston, MA 01583-1653. Burial will be private in Mt Vernon Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Congregational Church of West Boylston.
