Our History

In 1896, Edwin Miles established a funeral home in his family’s home on Main Street in the Jefferson section of Holden, Massachusetts.  Mr. Miles’ vision was to provide needed funeral services to Holden and surrounding communities.

In the 1940’s the funeral home was moved to its present location at 1158 Main Street in Holden where it has resided for the last 70 years.  During this time, the facility has doubled in size to accommodate the families who have entrusted us with their loved ones.

In 1997, after two years of careful planning and consideration, a second location was established at 100 Worcester Road (Rte. 12), Sterling, Massachusetts.

“For over 120 years, Miles Funeral Home has been committed to providing the highest standards of funeral service with a comfortable and supportive environment to each family we serve.  Our first and foremost goal is customer service to you and your family during your time of need.  It is our responsibility to listen closely to each family member in order to assist everyone in experiencing their loss and participating in the design of the funeral.  We offer professional guidance as our reputation for honesty and integrity are our most valuable assets.

Miles Funeral Homes is owned and operated by Richard S. Mansfield, a resident of Holden, with his wife Beverly. Rick started with Miles at the age of 17 and worked closely with Dorothy I. Miles, a pioneer in funeral service, for 25 years until the business was turned over to him.  The tradition of a family-owned business continues as we are an active part of the community and our close and local ties enable us to provide a more compassionate and personal service to our friends and neighbors in their time of need.  Miles is nationally recognized as a Selected Independent Funeral Home for its professional service, highest ethical standards and community and industry leadership.

Miles offers an array of services including Traditional Funerals, Memorial Services, Graveside Committals, Cremation Options, Military Honors for our U.S. Veterans, an Advance Planning Information Center and a full Aftercare Program with a Bereavement Resource Library and Support Seminars.  We are always available to answer your questions.  Our commitment goes beyond the funeral, it applies to everything we do.”
