HOLDEN – Constance “Connie” R. (Brodeur) Mayo, 82, of Jamieson Road, died peacefully on Wednesday, October 31, 2012 under the loving care of her family and the staff at Holden Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center in Holden. Born and raised in Worcester, she was the daughter of Wilfred E. and Bertha R. (Dubois) Brodeur and had lived in Holden since 1986.
Connie graduated from Commerce High School in 1949 and Hahnemann Hospital School of Nursing in 1952. Shortly after graduating nursing school, she enlisted in the United States Air Force as a Registered Nurse and served in Japan as a First Lieutenant during the Korean War. Upon returning home, Connie continued her career in nursing and worked at Holden District Hospital from 1962 until her retirement in 1990. She was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Jefferson and a former long time member of St. Joseph’s Church in Worcester.
She loved to travel and especially spending vacations in Wells, Maine with her husband. Connie was a caring and giving aunt, and enjoyed spending time with her nieces, nephews and grandchildren. She will be remembered for her gentle and kind nature, compassion and dedication to her patients throughout the years.
Her beloved husband of 18 years, Dr. Leroy E. Mayo, died in 2004. She is survived by five nieces and nephews, Paul Langway, Jr., Mark Langway, Patricia Hise, Michael Langway and niece and godchild, Karen Cote; seven grandnieces and grandnephews; eight grandchildren, Roy E. Lane of Sterling, Gary H. Lane of Orleans, James W. Lane of Rutland, Jeffrey M. Lane of Shrewsbury, Catherine A. Nicastro of Ashburnham, Christine E. Adams of Harwich, Cheryl L. Preston of Rochester, NY and Cynthia A. Kitchen of Yarmouth; 29 great-grandchildren; and her son-in-law, Harold M. Lane, Jr. of Holden. She was predeceased by her step-daughter, Dorothy E. Lane and her sister, Janet Langway.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Connie’s family from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 3, at the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden, followed by a procession to St. Mary’s Church, 114 Princeton Street, Jefferson for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. Interment will be at Grove Cemetery in Holden at the convenience of the family.
