RUTLAND – Stanley P. Smola, 77, passed away at home on Monday, February 4, 2013 after a long illness.
He leaves his loving wife of 50 years, Nancy F. (Fontaine) Smola. He was loved and adored by his three children, Kevin S. Smola and his wife Joanna of Worcester, Stephen A. Smola and his companion Jodi Eckert of Jefferson and Kathy A. Poirier and her husband Thomas of Rutland. He also leaves five cherished grandchildren, Jacob Poirier, Justin Smola, Elizabeth Smola, Carly Poirier and Benjamin Smola; and many nieces and nephews. Stanley was predeceased by a brother, Raymond Smola and three sisters, Amelia Heneault, Stacia Biegay and Wanda Jackiewicz.
Stanley was born in Holden, the son of Stanley and Bertha (Beilaska) Smola and had lived in Rutland the past 50 years. He enlisted and served in the U.S. Navy in 1952. He was a machinist and a kiln setter at Norton Company in Worcester for 35 years. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Church in Rutland and the Ovila Case VFW Post 905 in Gardner. Stanley was an avid N.E. sports fan, enjoyed gardening and loved to spend time with his family.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, February 6, in Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden. The funeral for Stanley will be held on Thursday, February 7, from the funeral home with a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Patrick’s Church, 258 Main Street, Rutland. Burial will be held in the spring at Rural Cemetery in Rutland.
