    Shane R. Mattson

    November 28, 1972 - June 13, 2022

MILLBURY – Shane R. Mattson, 49, beloved husband of Susan (Bunce) Mattson, passed away on Monday, June 13, 2022, at St. Vincent Hospital after losing his courageous battle with cancer. Born in Worcester and raised in Holden, he was a son of Gail (Erickson) Mattson and the late David Mattson, Sr. Shane attended Wachusett Regional High School and for the last five-plus years was employed by Cogmedix in Worcester as an associate manufacturing engineer. Shane was both respected and well-liked by his co-workers and management team. Bass fishing was Shane’s passion. He was an award-winning fisherman. He also enjoyed camping. Maine was his “happy place”. Shane loved to cook and made a mean rack of ribs. He loved Chinese food and considered himself a “foodie”. Shane and Susan were on the eternal search for the best home fries and lobster roll. Shane’s other interests include music, sci-fi, road rage, dragons and gaming. He will be lovingly missed and remembered by his soulmate, Susan, with whom he reconnected with after 30 years and married this past May; his mother, Gail Mattson of Holden; his two brothers, David Mattson, Jr. and his wife, Barbara of Holden and Adam Mattson and his wife, Sarah of NH; his three nieces, Katherine, Andrea and Bryanna who lovingly referred to him as “Uncle Fishy”; many aunts and uncles, especially Aunt Irene Erickson, who was more like a sister to him; and several cousins and close friends. Relatives and friends are invited to gather with the family from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 22 in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden. A memorial service honoring Shane’s life will follow at 7 p.m. in the funeral home. The family requests that flowers be omitted due to health reasons. Memorial donations may be made to Vintage Pet Rescue, P.O. Box 194, Foster, RI 02825 or to Clover Ridge Animal Sanctuary, P.O. Box 2053, New Milford, CT 06776.
