    Thomas J. Morton

    June 18, 1935 - May 15, 2022

    RUTLAND – Thomas J. Morton, 86, beloved husband of the late Eleanore (Buck) Morton, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 15, 2022 at the Worcester Rehabilitation and Health Care Center. Born and raised in Dearborn, MI, he was a son of Ola and Martha (Kyle) Morton. After graduating from Melvindale High School, he enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served his country. After relocating to Rutland, Tom enjoyed a long career as a machinist with the Norton Company in the Armour Norbide Devision. He was a faithful member of the First Congregational Church in Rutland where he enjoyed singing in the choir for many years. He was a member of the Rutland Fire Brigade and the Rufus Putnam Lodge of Masons in Rutland. In his spare time, Tom enjoyed caning and riding his tractor every Saturday. He will be lovingly missed and remembered by his son, Jeffrey Morton; his two daughters, Elizabeth Morton and Martha Stranieri and her husband, John, all of Rutland; his three brothers, Frank Morton and his wife, Mary Ellen of Bradenton, FL, Robert Morton of Woodhaven, MI, and George Morton of Southgate, MI; his five grandchildren, Alyssa, Stephanie, Sonya, Callie and Ethan; his twelve great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife of 56 years, Eleanore, he was predeceased by his sister, Barbara Morton, his brother, William Morton and his grandson, Jeffrey Morton, Jr. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 28 in the First Congregational Church of Rutland, 264 Main Street, Rutland. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Tom’s name may be made to the First Congregational Church of Rutland.
