WORCESTER - Vivian J. (Kourey) Murphy of Worcester passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 5, 2022 after a recent health issue, five days shy of her 89th birthday. A lifelong resident of Worcester, Vivian was a daughter of the late Mary M. (Haddad) and Nicholas Kourey. She was predeceased by her husband, Edward P. Murphy and sister, Gladys Mahassel, both in 1980. She is survived by her son, Brian E. Murphy of Ormond, FL, her daughter, Maureen and husband, Douglas T. Sanderson of Petersham, MA. She was called Sito by five grandchildren, Edward, Paul, Caitlin, Cassie and Thomas and five great-grandchildren who all brought a smile to her face. She also leaves two brothers, Roger N. Kourey of Myrtle Beach, SC, Victor Kourey and his wife, Mary Ann of Powder Springs, GA, along with many cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was a graduate of Commerce High School, Worcester Memorial Hospital School of Nursing and Anna Maria College. Vivian went on to become the Director of Nurses at Lincoln Nursing Home. She was elected and served as the president of the Worcester Charter Chapter of the American Business Women’s and selected as the chapter’s Woman of the Year in 1984. Vivian worked as a school nurse for the City of Worcester’s Public Health Department for many years where she also served as President of the City of Worcester’s Nurses Union. After retirement she was an active RSVP volunteer. Vivian will long be remembered for her skills at knitting, crocheting and quilting. All her family members proudly display the Christmas stockings she knit for them over the years. Vivian took much pride in her log cabin at York Beach where she delighted in creating lifelong memories for her family. Family and friends are invited to meet with Vivian’s family from 10:00 – 11:00 AM on Wednesday, January 12, 2022 in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM in the funeral home with the Rev. Fr. Milad Selim officiating. Burial will follow next to her husband, Edward, in Hope Cemetery, Worcester.
