RUTLAND – Charles A. Campbell, Sr., 84 of West Ave G, Nolanville, Texas, died Thursday, January 15, 2009 in Scott and White Hospital, Temple, Texas.
His wife of 25 years, Shirley A. (Cocker) Campbell, died in 1993. He leaves six daughters, Donna M. Tuttle of East Amherst, NY, Susan A. Robison of Belton, TX, Janice M. Campbell of Harker Heights, TX, Linda R. Sheridan of South Yarmouth, Tammy L. Kowzun of East Hartford, CT and Royale D. McMasters of London, England; two brothers, John Campbell of MA and Vincent Campbell, Jr. of Worcester; two sisters, Alice Crouse of Somerville, ME and Nancy Giannino of North Attleboro; 14 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; his former wife, Gloria A. Cooper Brumfield of Harker Heights, TX; and many friends in Texas and Massachusetts. His son, Charles A. Campbell, Jr. died in 1972, and his daughter, Patricia J. Gordon, died in 2008. He was born in Worcester, son of Vincent and Catherine (Christman) Campbell, Sr. and lived in Rutland for over 30 years before moving to Texas 13 years ago.
Charlie was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II serving at Normandy in the European Theatre. He was owner and operator of Charlie's Texaco in Worcester, retiring in 1988. Previously he worked as an oil burner serviceman for Peterson Oil and Bellis Oil Co., both in Worcester. He was a past member of the American Legion Post 310 in Rutland, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3657 South Works in Worcester and the Belton Iris Society in Belton, TX. Charlie was an avid gardener, beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He will always be remembered as Grandpa "M & M".
A committal service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, January 23rd, at Worcester County Memorial Park, 217 Richards Avenue (Rte. 56), Paxton. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Scott and White Hospice, 2401 South 31st Street, Temple, Texas 76508. Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden is directing arrangements.
