HOLDEN – Akif S. Qutab, 31, a loving, kind-hearted son, brother, cousin, uncle and friend, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, November 2, 2021. Born in Worcester on August 14, 1990, Akif grew up in Holden where he attended school and graduated from Wachusett Regional High School in 2009. Akif later graduated from the University of Massachusetts - Lowell with a bachelor’s degree in Exercise Physiology. After college he explored new career options, working a variety of different jobs until he finally found a good fit by enrolled in the nursing program at Lincoln Technical Institute in Rhode Island up until his passing.
Akif had an affinity for people in the margins of society, and an awareness of working-class people and how they were forgotten. He was selfless in that way. He did not seek achievement for himself, but rather he wanted to lessen the suffering of others. He often donated to nonprofit organizations and brought meals to the Mustard Seed soup kitchen in Worcester.
Besides being with his family and friends, Akif (“Kif”) also enjoyed being active outdoors, in nature and with animals. He always had pets (including two aquatic frogs who lived for over 25 years). He was a life-long learner and practiced many healthy/holistic living practices including Siddha Yoga.
Akif will be remembered for his warm presence, acts of kindness and his inclusive peace-making nature. Unknown to many, Akif also struggled with chronic bouts of Depression, over many years, which continuously interfered with his passion for serving others with dignity. He will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his parents, Ann (Bissanti) Qutab of Holden and Abbas Qutab, and Akif’s step-mother, Karen (Way) Qutab of Rutland; five siblings: sister, Serenity Sullivan Jacques and her husband, Vincent of Worcester, sister, Marina Qutab of Los Angeles, CA and three brothers, Kazim Qutab of DeKalb, IL, Murtaza Qutab of Holden and Tamur Qutab of Rutland/Metropolitan New York; Four aunts: Catherine Bissanti and Virginia Barbati of Bedford MA, Elizabeth Cellucci of Cambridge MA and Raffia Qutab of Marlboro; three uncles: Mozam Qutab of Marlboro, J.Michael Bissanti of Bedford MA and Bilal Qutab of Lahore Pakistan; three nieces: Juanita, Luciana and Lydia and one nephew: Isaiah in Worcester; seven cousins in MA and others in Pakistan and Canada.
