PRINCETON - Alfred T. Glockner, Jr., 78, formerly of Princeton, died on Saturday, May 19, 2012, at the UMass Memorial Healthcare – Memorial Campus, after an illness. Born in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, Al was the son of Alfred T. and Alice L. (O’Brien) Glockner and lived most of his life in Princeton before moving to Rutland last year.
Al attended Princeton schools and worked as a carpenter at Memorial Hospital in Worcester for 20 years, retiring in 1991. Previously, he worked 18 years at Fitchburg Paper Co. in Fitchburg. He was a member of Prince of Peace Church in Princeton, the Main South American Legion Post in Worcester and the National Rifle Association. As an outdoorsman, Al enjoyed hunting, fishing and just spending time with nature in the woods. He was a New England sports fan and particularly enjoyed routing for his beloved Boston Red Sox.
He was a passionate gardener and thoroughly enjoyed winning the annual “tomato growing contest” he had with his boys for harvesting the largest tomato. Al will be remembered by his family as a loving and caring husband, dad, grandfather and uncle, and for all the wonderful summers spent at their summer home in Booth Bay, Maine.
He is survived and will be greatly missed by his beloved wife of 55 years, Frances M. (Griffin) Glockner; his sons, Alfred T. Glockner, III and his wife Shelley of Rutland, Timothy M.
