William A. Williams

HOLDEN – William A. Williams, Sr., 87, of Holden, died Thursday, March 4, 2010 in St. Mary Health Care Center, Worcester.

He leaves his wife of 52 years, Loretta M. (Saunders) Williams; two sons, William A. Williams, Jr. and his wife Ann of Oxford and Gary W. Williams of Holden; two daughters, Cynthia A. Williams of Worcester and Sandra L. Domeij and her husband Mark of Westborough; and eight grandchildren. He was born on January 26, 1923 in Middletown, Connecticut, the son of Berkeley and Margaret C. (Pfleger) Williams and lived in Worcester before moving to Holden in 1957.

Mr. Williams was a graduate of Classical High School in Worcester and in 1947, a graduate of Worcester Polytechnic Institute where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering and was a member of the Theta Chi fraternity. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Pavlic in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre. He worked as an electrical engineer at Heald Machine Company in Worcester for 38 years, retiring in 1985.

He was an active member and sung in the choir at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church. He served as Scoutmaster in Worcester and Holden and on the executive board of the Mohegan Council, Boy Scouts of America and he received the Silver Beaver award. He enjoyed camping, gardening and golfing and was an avid Red Sox and Bruins fan.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday, March 8th, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. The funeral service for Mr. Williams will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, March 9th, in St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 919 Pleasant Street, Worcester. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, 217 Richards Avenue (Rte. 56), Paxton. Memorial donations may be made or donations to St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 919 Pleasant Street, Worcester, MA 01602; or the Mohegan Council, Boys Scouts of America, 19 Harvard Street, Worcester, MA 01609.
