HOLDEN – Margaret B. (Braynard) Peabody, 87, of 54 Avery Heights Dr., died on Monday, September 24, 2007 in UMass Memorial Hospital, Worcester, after a brief illness.
Her husband of 60 years, Arthur W. Peabody, died in January of 2002. She leaves her sons, Arthur W. Peabody, Jr. and his wife Betty Sue of Houston, Texas and Robert B. Peabody and his wife Diane of Raynham; a daughter, Nancy P. von Burske and her husband Daniel of Golden, Colorado; a brother, Frank Braynard and his wife Doris of Sea Cliff, New York; a sister, Nancy Wait and her husband Harold of Cranford, New Jersey; a sister-in-law, Lois Braynard of Murrell’s Inlet, South Carolina; and four grandchildren, Jack and Chris von Burske, Carrie and Will Peabody; nephews and nieces. A brother, Edwin C. Braynard, predeceased her.
Mrs. Peabody was born and raised in Glen Cove, New York, daughter of Edwin C. and Carrie (Upham) Braynard, and has lived in Holden for the last 50 years. She was a 1941 graduate of Duke University in Durham, North Carolina. In the 1970’s, she worked as a secretary at Rutland Height’s Hospital and worked with children with dyslexia. She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Holden and enjoyed singing in the church choir and for the Worcester Chorus. She was an avid gardener and was awarded a Master Gardener certificate from the Garden Extension Service.
A memorial service for Mrs. Peabody will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 29th, in the First Congregational Church of Holden. Interment will be private in Grove Cemetery, Holden. Memorial donations may be made to the First Congregational Church of Holden, 1180 Main Street, Holden, MA 01520-1016. Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden is directing arrangements.
