EAST FALMOUTH – Born in Worcester, Massachusetts, Carol Damon Sigel passed away peacefully at home on Monday, June 22, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. She was 85 years old.
Carol was a creative spirit whose warmth, intelligence, and humor left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her. An artist, avid reader, and supporter of the arts, she found joy in beauty wherever she encountered it. Whether through books, museums, travel, or the natural world, she approached life with curiosity and appreciation. Her brilliant smile, infectious laugh, and quick wit could brighten any room. Carol possessed a rare gift for making others feel welcome and at ease, often offering just the right observation or perfectly timed joke to bring levity to a moment.
The great love of Carol's life began at a dance. A shy, beautiful, and intelligent young woman, she initially passed by when Martin Sigel asked her to dance. Undeterred, he gathered the courage to ask again when she came around a second time. This time she said yes, beginning a partnership that would span more than sixty-three years.
Married in 1963, Carol and Martin built a life together in Worcester, Massachusetts, where they raised their three children in a home filled with love, laughter, creativity, and affection. Their children often found them holding hands or dancing together in the kitchen, small gestures that reflected a marriage rooted in friendship, devotion, and joy. Even after recently celebrating their sixty-third wedding anniversary, they remained each other's closest companions.
Carol's curiosity and adventurous spirit led her to travel through Europe with Martin and later to Egypt with a dear friend. She loved birds, especially cardinals, whose faithful pairing brought her quiet happiness. She was drawn to elephants for their intelligence, emotional depth, and loyalty. Most of all, she cherished the peace and beauty of the ocean.
Carol believed in kindness as a daily practice. Around her home, she would leave handwritten notes reminding those she loved to be grateful, to extend grace, and not to rush to judgment. She lived those values every day, and they remain among the many gifts she leaves behind.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Martin Sigel; her children, Michael (Sandra), David (Hilary), and Karen (Dan); her five grandchildren; and her six great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her brother, Vincent John L'Esperance, and her parents, Emily May Wood and Vincent Elzier L'Esperance.
Her family will remember her laughter, her creativity, her generosity of spirit, and the enduring example of a life well lived and deeply loved.
"Cultivate the habit of being grateful for every good thing that comes to you, and to give thanks continuously." — Ralph Waldo Emerson
A private family ceremony will be held to celebrate Carol's life. Arrangements are in the care of Miles Funeral Home of Holden.
