Catherine A. Scalley

Aug 17, 1934 — Jul 8, 2026

HOLDEN - Catherine Ann (Lundy) Scalley, affectionately known as Kay, was born on August 17, 1934. After losing both of her parents at a very young age, she was lovingly raised by her maternal grandparents, Peter F. Lundy and Mabel G. (Kenney) Lundy. Their love, guidance, and steadfast care became the foundation upon which she built her own family.

In 1954, Kay married the love of her life, George G. "Joe" Scalley Jr. Together they shared thirty-five years of marriage until Joe's passing in 1989. Together they built a family that remains their enduring legacy.

Kay is survived by her children: Michael J. Scalley of Somonauk, Illinois; James E. Scalley and his wife, Robyn, of Shrewsbury; and Mary K. Singas and her husband, Michael, of Jefferson.

Kay measured her life less by accomplishments than by the people she loved. Her greatest joy continued to grow with the arrival of her grandchildren: Bryana Tribuna and her husband, Justin Tribuna, of Watertown; Mikayla Singas of Brighton; Caterina Singas Kosovrasti and her husband, Klajdi Kosovrasti, of Worcester; and Hope Kathryn Singas. In one of life's beautiful full circles, Kay lived to welcome her first great-grandchild, Theodore Joseph, whose arrival brought immeasurable joy to Kay and her family.

Those who knew Kay respected her keen intelligence. Before her marriage, she worked for the Catholic Diocese. Throughout her life, she treasured enduring friendships and held a special affection for the Sisters of Mercy and the mission of Pernet Family Health Service.

Like many of her generation, Kay was independent by nature. She valued self-reliance and rarely asked for more than she believed she needed. Those fortunate enough to know her well understood that her love was often expressed more through loyalty, steadfastness, and quiet acts of care than through words.

Kay shared with her family a lifelong love of the beach. She taught them to appreciate the simple gifts of a salt breeze, the excitement of finding a perfect piece of sea glass along an August shoreline, and the happiness that always seemed just a little sweeter if chocolate happened to be involved. Those simple pleasures became treasured family traditions and remain part of her legacy today.

Kay was grateful for the kindness of good friends and neighbors. A lifelong friendship with Shirley was sustained through family updates and the sharing of cherished memories. Living within "the Village," as the residents affectionately called their Holden condominium community, Kay both gave and received support. She especially treasured the friendship of Sue, whose remarkable generosity, kindness, and quiet acts of care consistently brought confidence and comfort to Kay during her later years.

Kay was predeceased by her beloved husband, George G. "Joe" Scalley Jr.; her parents, Peter F. Lundy and Mabel G. (Kenney) Lundy; her brother, William ("Bill") Lundy and his wife, Gloria; her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Phyllis M. Hyland and Robert H. Scalley

Her family will remember Kay for the enduring love she inspired, the traditions she created, and the quiet strength that continues to shape the generations that follow.

Arrangements are private via Miles Funeral Home Holden. A celebration of Kay's life will be planned at a later date.
