Biography
BERLIN/STERLING – Charles “Pete” Maki, 75, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 28 in his new home after recovering from a long illness.
Pete was born on March 9, 1941 in Fitchburg, living most of his life in Sterling. He was a man of few words who loved to keep physically active, competing in the Boston Marathon and Tae Kwon Do tournaments, hunting, fishing and more recently rebuilding his strength by walking the back roads of Hardwick.
He enjoyed Labradors; especially Bella; helping his neighbors at Sholan Terrace in Sterling where he lived for many years, and the Bruins.
Pete is survived by four children and eight grandchildren; Paula and Don Gawlik of Sterling and their children, Ben, Jillian and Megan; Sonja and Ric Craig of Hardwick and their children, Lyndsey, Mac and Wyatt; Erik and Jeanine Maki of Rutland and their sons, Jonathan and Harrison; and Craig Maki of Sterling; two sisters, Barbara Lubin of North Conway, NH and Sandra Taylor of West Monroe, LA.
