RUTLAND- Charles E. McElroy, Sr, 84 passed away peacefully on July 17, 2026 with his family by his side. He was predeceased by the love of his life Catherine A. (Carlson) McElroy; his parents, William and Mabel (Anderson) McElroy; 5 siblings, William, Sarah, Mary, Francis, John (Buddy).

He leaves behind his children, Charles McElroy II of Worcester, Steven McElroy and his wife Kelly of Rutland, and Richard McElroy of Haverhill; his grandchildren, Timothy McElroy (Grampa's buddy), Kayle Lambert and her husband Robert, Alixandra Koziol and her husband Matthew and Joseph McElroy; his great grandchildren Caden, Colby, Conor, Camron, Gracelyn, Rhyanne, Alayah and Sawyer; and a sister Mabel Austin.

Born and raised in Worcester he worked as a mechanic for the Worcester Regional Transit Authority before his retirement. Charles met the love of his life, Catherine, and throughout 49 years of marriage, he never stopped doting on her. He embodied chivalry, respect and devotion, taking great pride in caring for her in both the big moments and the everyday ones. Catherine never had to open her own door or hold her own umbrella, Charlie was always there ensuring she was always looked after with thoughtfulness and love. Raising a family in Worcester before retiring to Rutland, where they continued to build a life filled of laughter and commitment to one another. Charlie found his greatest joy in watching his family grow, especially spending time on his deck as his grandchildren and great grandchildren played in the yard below. He also love unwinding with his glass of wine and watching his birds. He took great pride in a perfectly manicured lawn, and sharing the companionship of his beloved dogs.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a calling hour on Tuesday, August 4th from 10:00 AM-11:00 AM at Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St, Holden. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM in the funeral home. Interment will follow at Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton.
