LUNENBURG/HOLDEN – Gary C. Swenson, 67, Lunenburg, formerly of Holden, died Wednesday, May 13, 2009 in the Healthcare Alliance/Leominster Hospital, after a brief illness.
He leaves his wife of 44 years, Dorothy A. (Wrightson) Swenson; four sons, John E. Swenson and his wife Zenaide of Hudson, James J. Swenson of Gardner, Jeffrey R. Swenson and his wife Yolanda of Gardner and Joel T. Swenson of Worcester; a brother, Robert I. Swenson and his wife Laura of Melbourne, FL; and 8 grandchildren, Jonathan, Kayla, Darian, Timothy, Matthew, Erik, Kyle and Kurt. A brother, David H. Swenson, and two grandsons, Garrett and Andrew Swenson, predeceased him. He was born and raised in Worcester, son of Harry E. and Ruth C. (Webb) Swenson, and lived 20 years in Holden before moving to Lunenburg in 1990.
Gary graduated from Worcester Boys Trade High School and Fitchburg State College in 1964. He was a Global Quality Manager for Nypro Corp. in Clinton where he worked for 11 years. He previously worked for several years at Kennedy Die Cast Co. and 24 years for GKN Presmet Corp., both in Worcester. He enjoyed spending time with his family and was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed working, boating and traveling with his wife around the world. He was a member of Orchard Hills Athletic Club in Lancaster.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 3 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, May 17th, in the Miles-Sterling Funeral Home, 100 Worcester Road (Rte.12), Sterling. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 18th, in St. George's Church, 38 Brattle Street, Worcester. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery, 260 Cambridge Street, Worcester. In lieu of flowers, donations in the memory of his grandson, Andrew J. Swenson, may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
