RUTLAND – David R. Mayo, 55, passed away on Sunday, February 17, 2013, surrounded by his loving family and friends at UMass Memorial Healthcare – University Campus after an illness.
He leaves his wife of 25 years, Katherine A. Koki-Mayo; two children, Samuel D. and Emily K. Mayo both of Rutland; his mother, Cecile B. (Noel) Johnson of Grafton; two brothers, Ernest Johnson and his wife Gail and Mark Johnson and his wife Linda both of Charlton; five sisters, Ellen Chamberlain and her husband Lee of NH, Cheryl Caron and her husband Stan of NH, Charlotte Eramo of Millbury, Charlene Luukko and her husband David of Douglas and Kerry Marshall of Dudley; a sister-in-law, Cheryl Koki and her husband Bill Shipman of Shrewsbury; many nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles and cousins; his cat “Oz” and his best friend who has always been there for him, Fred Battersby. David was predeceased by his step-father, Ernest Johnson and a brother-in-law, Thomas Eramo.
David was born in Worcester, the son of the late Robert E. Mayo. He graduated from Grafton High School, earned his bachelor’s degree from Rhode Island College and his master’s degree from UConn. David was a social worker for 30 years at The Bridge of Central MA in Worcester. He lived in Rutland for the past 23 years and was a member of St. Patrick’s Church and a former scout master for Troop 306 both in Rutland. He was a lifelong fan and a season ticket holder of the New England Patriots.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 4 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 21, followed by a memorial service at 6 p.m. in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden. The family requests that flowers be omitted and that memorial contributions may be made in David’s name to The Bridge of Central MA, 4 Mann Street, Worcester, MA 01602.
