Biography
WORCESTER - Demetra “Toula” (Matheoulis) Garoulis, 86, of Worcester, passed away on the morning of Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at St. Vincent Hospital in Worcester. Born in Greece, she was the daughter of the late Kyriako and Evgenia (Houtopolis) Matheoulis.
In Greece, Toula met the love of her life, Spiro and they married in 1954 after a short courtship. She was a member of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Worcester and was a part of their choir for many years. Toula spent 35 years volunteering for the Red Cross and giving of herself in any way that counted.
Toula’s beloved husband of 58 years, Spiro, passed on in 2012. She is survived by her son Vasilios “Billy” S. Garoulis and his wife, Jeana of Worcester; her grandchildren, Christina M. and Michael S. Garoulis; her sister, Constintina Hanna, and many nieces and nephews.
Relative and friends are invited to visit with Toula’s family from 10 to 11 a.m. at on January 16, 2015 at Saint Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 102 Russell Street, Worcester, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Toula will be laid to rest beside her husband at Hope Cemetery in Worcester. Memorial donations may be made to Saint Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 102 Russell Street, Worcester, MA 01609. Arrangements are under the care of the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden.
