RUTLAND – Donald J. White, 87, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 21, 2019 under the loving care of his family and the staff at the Odd Fellows Home in Worcester. Born in Ware and raised in Barre, Don was the son of James and Dorilda (LaVeigne) White, and lived in Worcester before moving to Rutland in 1961.
He will be remembered and missed by his wife of 67 years, Jane M. (Strong) White; two sons, Edward P. White and his wife, Mary of Holden and David A. White and his wife, Melissa of Davenport, Florida; two daughters, Deborah J. Boisse and her husband, George of Manassas, Virginia and Sandra L. Dunn and her husband, Michael of Worcester; his sister, June Beland of Worcester; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; nephews and nieces. Besides his parents, Don was predeceased by a brother, Edward P. White and a sister, Hazel Brown.
Don graduated from Commerce High School in Worcester. He was a member of the Local Teamsters and worked at several local laundry companies including Morgan Linens. Don worked at Sims Cab in Rutland before retiring and drove buses part-time for J.P. McCarthy & Sons Co. in Brookfield.
He was an active member of the First Congregational Church of Rutland where he served as a deacon. Besides spending time with his beloved family, Don‘s passion was volunteering his time as the Cub Master for Pack #141 in Rutland for over 40 years. Don will be remembered for his kind heart and selfless nature.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Don’s family from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, January 24, at the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden. A funeral service honoring his life will be held privately at the funeral home. Burial will be in Rural Cemetery in Worcester. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his name to the Heart of New England Council Boy Scouts of America, Friends of Scouting Pack 141 – Rutland, 1980 Lunenburg Rd., Lancaster, MA 01523.
