WEST BOYLSTON – Doris A. Johnson (Dickie), 90, passed peacefully on May 24, 2025. Doris was the beloved daughter of Herbert James Dickie and Edith May Dickie (Bigelow). Doris spent her childhood in Cherry Valley, where lifelong friendships and beautiful memories were made.
A graduate of Leicester High School, Doris went on to work at State Mutual Life Assurance Company, where she met her husband, Albert L. Johnson. Doris and Al built a full and loving life in West Boylston, where they raised their two children, Scott and Kim.
Doris spent many years raising her children, managing the home, and being an involved and contributing member of her town and church. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and Gigi; she loved her family deeply and was there for everyone through thick and thin.
Doris worked many part-time jobs outside of the home over the years, but by far her favorite was her many years working at the West Boylston Senior Center with “her girls” who meant the world to her. Doris retired from the Senior Center at the age of 87.
Doris lost her husband, Al, in 1982 and was blessed to meet and spend twenty-three wonderful years with John K. Foley and his family. They enjoyed much in life together: trips, home, family, friends, many laughs, and much love. John passed away in 2008, but the wonderful memories live on in the hearts of family and dear friends.
Doris was also predeceased by her beloved son Scott in 2024. She once said that the minute he was born, she looked into his eyes and instantly loved him with her whole heart and soul. That never changed.
Doris will be greatly missed and her memory treasured by her daughter, Kim L. Fisher of West Boylston; her granddaughter, Sarah A. Foley, and Sarah’s husband, Ryan P. Foley; her great-grandson, Bradley, all of Charlton; her son-in-law, Brian C. Murphy of Roslindale; as well as extended family and many dear friends.
In keeping with Doris’ wishes, there will be no calling hours or services, and the burial will be private. In lieu of services, flowers, or plants, Doris and her family request you do something that makes you smile and remember her; she’d love that more than anything. Eat a chocolate frosted donut; go out for Chinese food and have a couple of Mai Tai’s. Enjoy a glass of Taylor port wine or a double espresso martini. Treat yourself to something from QVC that you don’t need but want and absolutely deserve. Work diligently until you solve the Sunday T&G crossword puzzle; start a jigsaw puzzle and finish it. Donate your time, talent, or resources to the West Boylston Senior Center (120 Prescott Street, West Boylston, MA 01583). Be kind to your neighbors, support and love your family and dear friends always. Be your best and give your best every day, just like Doris did.
