WORCESTER - Dorothy (Garland) Tarquinio Meigs, 88, of Christopher Heights, 20 Mary Scano Drive, Worcester, formerly of Westborough, died peacefully at home on Wednesday, February 16, 2005.
Her husband of 20 years, Walter H. Meigs, died in 1996, and her first husband of 18 years, Edward A. Tarquinio, died in 1962. She leaves her son, Edward A. Tarquinio of Rutland; two daughters, Judith E. Macuga of Holden and Blanche A. Landry of Plaquemine, Lousiana; two sisters, Louise Berry of Winter Park, Florida and Anne Wood of California; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; nephews and nieces.
She was born in Portland, Maine, the daughter of Morton P. and Blanche L. (Richardson) Garland. She grew up in Maine and graduated from the Buckfield Primary and Grammar School in 1930 and the Dixfield High School in 1934. She majored in German and earned her B.A. from the American International College in Springfield, Massachusetts graduating in 1939 and later went back to college and earned her Master’s of Elementary Education Degree from Worcester State College in 1966.
She was a former full time schoolteacher in Boylston and Princeton and a substitute teacher in the Worcester School System. Previously she worked as a clerk stenographer for Kelley-Chandler, Inc. of Worcester. She was the Past President of the Challenge Club of Worcester. She loved to knit.
The funeral Mass for Mrs. Tarquinio Meigs will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, February 19, in St. Patrick's Church, 258 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Rutland. Burial will be private in St. John’s Cemetery, 260 Cambridge Street, Worcester. Calling hours are from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, February 18, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Knox Trail Council, Inc., Boy Scouts of America, 490 Union Avenue, Framingham, MA 01702.
