HOLDEN - Edward L. Eagan, 93, of Holden, passed away peacefully under the loving care of his family and staff at the Holden Rehabilitation and Nursing Center on Tuesday, February 12, 2019.
Edward was born and raised in Pittsfield, MA, the son of Edward and Annie (Losty) Eagan, and was a graduate of Pittsfield High School. He earned a Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and proudly served his country as a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre. Following the war, he earned a Master's degree in Chemical Engineering from Purdue University.
His career was fulfilled by teaching chemistry and math, starting with Champlain College in Burlington, VT and over 25 years at Quinsigamond Community College in Worcester, retiring as Professor Emeritus in 1990. His love for learning and teaching extended through his entire life as his hands were never void of tools, organizing, and projects to help others.
He was a member and usher at St. Mary's Church in Jefferson, a member of the American Chemical Society of Engineers and a former member of Tower Hill Botanical Gardens. An avid horticulturalist, he grew many species of flowers, especially roses. His lifelong favorite sport was downhill skiing which he continued up until his final years. The sweet music from his beautiful piano playing, and talented strokes from his handmade oil paintings will forever be cherished.
Edward leaves his devoted and loving wife of 63 years, M. Patricia (O'Hearn) Eagan; a son, Brendan E. Eagan and his wife, Susan of Dallas, TX; three daughters, Patricia M. Eidinger and her husband, Jeffrey of Chandler, AZ. Jane A. Shooshan and her husband, Geoffrey of Paxton and Sheila J. Stagman and her husband, David of Marston Mills; eight grandchildren, Colin, Patrick, Jonathan, Elizabeth, Caitlin, Kimberly, Ryan and Summer; and five great-grandchildren, Julian, Jace, Haylee, Lillian and Caroline.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Edward's family from 9 to 10 a.m. on Saturday, February 16, at the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden, before leaving in procession for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, 114 Princeton St., Jefferson. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery, 260 Cambridge St., Worcester. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to St. Mary's Church, P.O. Box 2200, Jefferson, MA 01522.
