STURBRIDGE/HOLDEN – Edward A. Seman, Jr., 57, a Worcester firefighter, passed away at his twin sister’s home in Worcester on Wednesday, March 27, 2013 after a courageous battle with cancer.
He leaves his father, Edward A. Seman, Sr. of Holden; a sister, Evelyn M. Sullivan and her husband Robert of Worcester; a niece, Stephanie Malette of Seattle, WA; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Edward was predeceased by his mother, Helen S. (Rozycki) Seman in 2009 and his sister, Doris A. Malette who passed away in February 2012.
He was born in Plainfield, NJ and had lived in Holden for many years before moving to Sturbridge seven years ago. He graduated from St. John’s High School in Shrewsbury, Lowell Tech and Worcester Jr. College. Edward was appointed to the Worcester Fire Department in 1988 and was a firefighter for 25 years serving on Rescue 1 out of the Franklin Street Station. He was the recipient of the Firefighter of the Year award for saving a child in a house fire in 1994. He was a member of Worcester Firefighters Local 1009 International Association of Firefighters, the Massachusetts Professional Firefighters Association and was a delegate for the Central Mass Labor Council. Ed enjoyed boating, riding on his Harley and spending time with family and friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 2, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden. Funeral services for Edward will be held on Wednesday, April 3, from the funeral home with an 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady of Czestochowa Church, 34 Ward Street, Worcester. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Holden. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Worcester Fire Department Credit Union, Ramp Program, 34 Glennie Street, Worcester, MA 01605.
