WORCESTER - Edward (Eddy) I. Stein, 94, passed away peacefully on October 7 in Worcester, Mass. Born and raised in Milford, he was the youngest of five children to Harry and Pearl Stein and the last surviving sibling.
Eddy was loved and adored by those in his life as son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, friend, businessman, and community member. His life centered around these people and places, especially family and work. He would regale you with his infectious smile and embrace you with his charm.
After serving in the Army, Eddy opened his own store, Eddy’s Furniture in Worcester in 1956. Over the years, the store evolved to focus on floor coverings. His son Howard (Howie) was his longtime business partner.
Eddy was known for his warmth and, especially in his later years, his stamina. He liked to tell people that he was 94 years old and still working, to which they would reply with an unbelievable “no,” which delighted him.
He was also known for hosting memorable Customer Appreciation Nights on behalf of "the store." Friends and family were treated to summer cookouts on weekends at Stiles Reservoir when he and Sylvia resided in Spencer. Eddy was known for being the head usher for high holiday services at Temple Emanuel and serving as the Brotherhood president. He maintained long-lasting friendships, a testament to his kindness and loyalty.
Eddy was a generous man and always available to give a helping hand. He would do anything for his family and those in need.
Eddy is predeceased by his wife Sylvia, son Jeffrey, and four siblings (Sidney Stein, Alice Zaner, Dorothy Stein, and Frances Goldstein).
He is survived by his cherished longtime partner Linda Lavigne, his sons Howard Stein (Garie) and Randy Stein (Merle), daughter Wendi Stein (Brian Yarwood), and his grandchildren Jordan (Suzana), Joshua (Ashley), Eric (Alissa), Aaron (Marisa), Charlie (Julia), Sophie and her fiancé Schyler, and Madison; eight great-grandchildren – Hunter, Liev, Parker, Samantha, Archie, Adalynn, Jesse, and Sonny; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A Funeral Service will be on Monday, October 12 at 1:00 PM at Temple Emanuel Sinai, 661 Salisbury Street, Worcester, Mass., followed by a burial service at the Worcester Hebrew Cemetery, Cemetery Road, Auburn, MA. Arrangements are in the care of Miles Funeral Home in Holden.
Shiva will be at the Jewish Healthcare Center in Worcester on Tuesday, October 13 from 5-7 PM.
