Elizabeth Vancelette

November 29, 1919 — July 27, 2006

HOLDEN– Elizabeth (Reid) Vancelette, 86, formerly of Worcester, died, Thursday, July 27, 2006, in the Millbury Healthcare Center, Millbury, after an illness.

Her husband of 47 years, Raymond L. Vancelette, Sr., died in 1991. She leaves two sons, John R. Vancelette and his fiancée June of Westbrooke, ME, and Ronald R. Vancelette and his wife Mary of Charlton City; five daughters, including twins, Betty L. Stewart and her husband Ronald of Ocala, FL, and R. Janice Miller and her husband Charles of Leesburg, FL, Margaret A. Wright and her husband Patrick of Claremore, OK, Jean S. Washington and her husband Quincy of Worcester, and Joyce M. Thompson of Worcester; a brother, George Reid of Coventry, England; 19 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; and several nephews and nieces. Her son, Raymond L. Vancelette, Jr., died in 1991.

She was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, the daughter of George and Elizabeth (Roberts) Reid. She lived in Worcester for 38 years before moving to the Colony Retirement Home in Holden. She will be forever remembered for her devotion to the retirement home and her countless hours of volunteer work. She was a member of the PCD, Daughters of Scotia in Worcester, the Holden Senior Society, and the Friends Council on Aging in Holden. Elizabeth was a devoted mother who loved her family and spending time with them. She also enjoyed cooking.

The funeral service for Elizabeth will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Monday, July 31, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, (Rte. 122A) Holden. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, 217 Richards Avenue (Rte. 56), in Paxton. Calling hours are from 5 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, July 30, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Millbury Healthcare Center, Activities Fund, 312 Millbury Avenue, Millbury, MA 01527.
