Funeral Services for Mrs. Philbin will be held on Wednesday, March 20 at 1 p.m. in the First Church in Sterling, 6 Meeting House Hill Road. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery.
STERLING – Elizabeth “Libby” (Wilder) Philbin, 67, passed away at home surrounded by her loving family on Friday, March 15, 2013 after an illness.
Her husband of 40 years, Philip A. Philbin passed away in 2008. She leaves two daughters, Sarah E. O’Connell and her husband Denis of Shrewsbury and Stephanie Philbin of Washington, DC; a brother, Bruce Wilder of Morrisville, VT; a sister, Suzanne Sanderson of North Hampton, NH; two grandchildren, Michael and Megan O’Connell; and many nephews and nieces.
Elizabeth was born in Clinton, the daughter of Edwin A. and Eleanor B. (Moynihan) Wilder and lived most of her life in Sterling. She owned and operated Philbin Orchards Inc. with her husband for several years. Previously, she worked at Agchem Inc. in Sterling retiring in 2008 and was a librarian at the Butterick School in Sterling. She was a former member of the Sterling Women’s Club. Elizabeth enjoyed playing bridge and loved to spend time at her winter home on Jekyll Island in Georgia.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday, March 18, in the Miles-Sterling Funeral and Tribute Center, 100 Worcester Road (Rte. 12), Sterling. Funeral services for Mrs. Philbin will be held on Tuesday, March 19, at 10 a.m. in the First Church in Sterling, 6 Meetinghouse Hill Road. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Sterling Fire Department, Ambulance Fund, P.O. Box 515, Sterling, MA 01564; or UMass Medicine Development Office, Gynecology Oncology Fund, 333 South Street, Shrewsbury, MA 01545.
