Eugene H. Lefebvre, born October 6, 1932, in Sterling, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on January 1, 2026, in his hometown, at the age of 93. His life spanned nearly a century of change, but the constants were his devotion to family, his steady work ethic, and his unmistakable presence wherever he was needed most.

Eugene is survived by his beloved wife, Alice Lefebvre, with whom he shared a long and enduring partnership of 66 years. Together they raised eight children—Anne, Jacqueline, Eugene II, Lynda, Charles, John, Thomas, and Neil. He was also a grandfather to twelve grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. He deeply appreciated experiencing and learning about their journeys through life.

For Eugene, parenting was not a passive role. It was an active, full-contact commitment. If a game was being played, he was often there—not just in the stands, but on the ice, on the field, or managing the books. He served as a hockey referee, a baseball umpire, and the treasurer for Pop Warner football, roles he approached with fairness, discipline, and just enough stubbornness to keep things running properly. He logged countless miles driving to horse shows, practices, and games, becoming intimately familiar with back roads, early mornings, and the fine art of sideline commentary.

Eugene attended St. John's Catholic High School (Class of 1950) and College of Holy Cross (Class of 1954). Beyond his involvement in youth sports and education, Eugene was committed to his community and country. He served in the United States Army enlisting in 1955 and completing his service in the Army Reserves in 1963. He served on the Lancaster Public School Board and was an active member of the Lions Club, contributing his time and energy to local service and civic life. These roles reflected his belief in showing up, pitching in, and helping things run as they should—no shortcuts, no excuses.

Professionally, Eugene built a long and respected career in sales and information technology, working for ITT Corp, State Mutual Insurance, Paul Revere Life Insurance, John Hancock Life Insurance, and New England Life Insurance. In an era when IT was in its infancy and evolving rapidly, he went back to school to learn this new technology while working full-time with a young, growing family. He remained steady and adaptable, contributing to systems and teams that relied on precision and dependability.

In later years, Eugene and Alice divided their time between New England and Florida, where they spent more than 20 years enjoying a well-earned change of pace at their new home in Spring Hill, Fl. An avid golfer, he could often be found with Alice and friends on the course, refining his game and appreciating the rhythm of a good round. Whether in the Florida sunshine or back home in Massachusetts, he embraced this chapter with the same consistency that defined the rest of his life.

Those who knew Eugene understood that he was not one for grand speeches or unnecessary fuss. His was a quieter legacy, built on showing up, doing the work, and supporting others without needing recognition. His life leaves behind not only a large and loving family, but a long trail of games officiated, meetings attended, miles driven, and moments quietly held together by his presence. He will be deeply missed and long remembered.
