A special thank you to Gladys Augustin and the staff from the Independence Health Care for providing loving care to Evelyn during her time of need.
Evelyn was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend who delighted in the accomplishments of her family, loved a good word or phrase in English and Yiddish, and was particularly proud of her Maine and New England roots. Evelyn relished Jewish culture and tradition. She was a long time member of Congregation Beth Israel of Worcester, and a lifetime member of the Jewish Home Ladies Auxiliary of Worcester and Hadassah Organization. Before getting married, Evelyn worked as the executive secretary for Rabbi Joseph Shubow of Congregation B’nai Moshe in Boston. As a child of Eastern European immigrants, she carried many responsibilities to support her family’s business and home life. She loved to share rich stories of her past with her children and grandchildren about Jewish life in Maine, including working for her father’s kosher butcher business and in later years vacationing in Old Orchard Beach.
She will be remembered as a lifelong learner, a lover of history and well respected in her community. Her loving family will miss her dearly.
