LANCASTER - Garda E. A. (Bernasconi) Casareale, 79, of South Lancaster, died on Friday, October 31, 2014, at UMass Medical Center in Worcester. Born in Basil, Switzerland, Garda was the daughter of Bruno and Hedweg Bernasconi. She moved to the United States in 1965 and was a longtime resident of South Lancaster.
She leaves her son, Arni B.V. Casareale and his wife, Michelle of Rutland; three grandchildren, Dante, Bella and Eva, who were the light of her life; and a sister, Elba Tschanz and her three children of Switzerland. She is predeceased by her brother, Reno Bernasconi.
Garda graduated from Adventist University in Collonges, France where she received a Bachelor’s degree in Theology. After graduating college, Garda spent several years as a missionary in Rwanda, Africa. She worked for over 20 years at the Lutheran Home of Worcester, retiring in 2008. She spoke four languages, played the violin and wrote poetry extensively with several pieces published in Italy. She was kind and selfless by nature. Garda was a member of The College Church of the Seventh-day Adventist in South Lancaster.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, November 9, at The College Church of the Seventh-day Adventist, 337 Main Street, South Lancaster. Interment will be held privately on Monday at Eastwood Cemetery in Lancaster. Memorial donations may be made to Adventist Frontier Missions, P.O. Box 286, Berrien Springs, MI 49103. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Miles-Sterling Funeral and Tribute Center, 100 Worcester Road, Sterling.
