WORCESTER – George William Boardman, Jr., 74, passed away on Monday, March 18, 2013, at the Odd Fellows Home in Worcester, where he had been a resident for the past 9 years. Born on January 8, 1939 in Islesboro, ME, George was the son of George and Lorraina (Yeaton) Boardman, Sr.
George lived his early years in Camden, ME before his family moved to Marlborough, MA. He graduated from Marlborough High School. After graduation, George proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy. He was employed as a construction laborer for his entire career and was a member of the Massachusetts Laborers Union until his retirement in 1995. He was an avid sports fan, especially of the New York Giants and the Boston Bruins.
George is survived by his children, Darlene Boardman Summers of Adel, GA and James Boardman of Miami, FL; his step-children, Charlene Cox and her children David and John Martinelli of Bellingham with whom he lived for many years and Charlie, Kenny and Frankie Westling and their families; his sisters, Cora Murray of Colorado Springs, CO and Ann Thomas of Lincolnville, ME; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Vernon Leach and his sisters, Shirley Korandanis and Alice Freund.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with George’s family between 3 and 5 p.m. on Saturday, March 23, at the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden. A graveside service will be private and held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in George’s memory to the Odd Fellows Home, Activity Fund, 104 Randolph Rd., Worcester, MA 01606.
