George V. Mioglionico, Jr.

HOLDEN - George Veto Mioglionico, Jr. passed away on July 20, 2026, after living with leukemia for 3 months. He is survived by 2 daughters Angela Mioglionico, and Jennifer McQuade; and two grandchildren, Coralina (Lina) and Caleb. He also leaves behind his beloved canine “daughter” Cali, with whom he built a happy home after the passing of his wife Jacalyn in 2023. He and Jacalyn had wed on June 2, 1973.

George was born on May 30, 1951, the son of George Mioglionico, Sr. and Dorothy (Beliveau) Mioglionico of Worcester, MA and New Port Richey, FL. George leaves behind 4 siblings: Peter and Steven Mioglionico, Karen Daigneault (married to Paul), and Ann Mitchell (married to Ed); and many other siblings-in-law, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

George attended Burncoat Senior High School and then joined the Navy in 1969. He honorably served at the Naval Air Station at Quonset Point, RI as an airman. While in training, he was a member of the Bluejacket Choir. As he served during the Vietnam War era, he was presented the National Defense Service Medal. In recent years he was rarely seen in the community without his Vietnam Era Veteran hat and proudly (frequently) accepted statements of gratitude for his service from members of the community.

After the Navy, George became a plumber’s apprentice and then a licensed plumber. What followed was a long career in the plumbing and heating industry. He first joined the team of Chaffins Plumbing and Heating in Holden, MA; and subsequently bought and ran that business independently under the name Chaffins Plumbing. He later incorporated and created A and J Plumbing and Heating. He operated these two businesses for over 30 years, proudly serving the Wachusett and Worcester-area communities. He spoke fondly of the relationships he built with customers, often staying to chat with older folks over tea after he finished his work, or not presenting a bill to someone who was going through a hard time. Although he sold his business in 2013, he continued to do plumbing work for friends, family, and colleagues in the industry. “Passionate” would be an understatement when describing how he felt about the work he did and why it was difficult for him to be fully retired. After a few years of retirement, he became the Plumbing Inspector for the towns of West Boylston and Holden; positions he held until April of this year. He enjoyed the opportunity to continue using his plumbing knowledge, interacting with community members, and socializing with other tradespeople. He was proud of his work and felt a great sense of purpose in working in and providing for his community.

Over the years, George had many interests. For decades he was part of a bowling league in Worcester and Auburn, through which he formed and maintained friendships. He enjoyed both watching NASCAR races at home on the TV and attending them in person when he was able to. As a fisherman, George spent time in nearby freshwater areas, on the shore in the West Dennis area, and on deep sea charters. Years ago, George took up golf which brought him to favorite area courses as well as courses in Myrtle Beach, SC where he enjoyed spending time in winter months. George and his wife Jackie were avid supporters of local restaurants, even continuing to support favorite staff members if they moved on to new locations. They had both enjoyed their time at Mexicali so much that to honor this, George used it as Cali's namesake. Since the 1990s, George had been enjoying cruises with Jackie, and these adventures took them to the Caribbean, Mexico, Alaska, and Bermuda. He loved fireworks, binge-watching movies, the sound of birds outside in the morning, and classic cars.

George was generous, gregarious, and a champion of DIY projects. He made donations to local charities, despite being on a fixed income himself. He enjoyed meeting up with friends in the community to share stories with passion and belly laughs. Landscaping, brickwork, construction, cooking, auto repair, painting, gardening, and general “MacGuyvering” all manner of projects; were all ways in which he enjoyed spending his time.

George was diagnosed with multiple myeloma in June 2023; two months after his wife’s passing and one week after bringing home his 8-week-old puppy. He bravely forged into the treatment of this cancer and came out of his bone marrow transplant in remission. He was back to his active self for much of late 2024 and through the middle of 2025 but then began having more bouts of pneumonia. In February 2026, symptoms of a new blood cancer appeared which then mutated into an aggressive, treatment-resistant leukemia by mid-April. Despite that, George fought this cancer as bravely and intentionally as anyone could, but the symptoms of this disease required multiple time-consuming transfusions each week, frequent hospital stays, and an inability to participate in many of his favorite activities.

Please come share memories of George’s life with family and friends at Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden on Wednesday, July 29 from 4-7 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 30 at First Baptist Church, 111 Park Avenue, Worcester. Burial will follow at Grove Cemetery in Holden. We would be honored if friends and family would also celebrate George’s life by donating blood and/or platelets at a local American Red Cross, as he depended so heavily on these donations himself.
