PAXTON – George A. Morin, Jr., 90, beloved husband of Carol (Wenchel) Morin, passed away peacefully with Carol by his side on Tuesday, June 9, 2026. Born on May 11, 1936, George was the son of the late George and Jeannette (Cournoyer) Morin.
After attending St. Mary’s Catholic School, George graduated from David Prouty High School, where he lettered in baseball and basketball. He went on to further his education at UMass Amherst, earning a bachelor’s degree in mathematics. While at UMass, George lettered in basketball and lacrosse and was a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity. Upon graduation, he took a position teaching math and science at Lake Street School in Spencer and served as assistant basketball coach at David Prouty High School.
George was drafted into the U.S. Army in the spring of 1959 and served for two years, working in the registrar’s office at the West Point Military Academy. While there, he met his beautiful wife, Carol. The two were married in August 1961 and shared nearly 65 wonderful years together.
In September 1961, George began a 34-year teaching career in the mathematics department at Wachusett Regional High School, which he later chaired for fifteen years before retiring in 1995. During his time at Wachusett, he coached track, worked with a crew of friends officiating football games, and served as an advisor to the National Honor Society.
In his spare time, George enjoyed carpentry projects, and in retirement he became a skilled furniture maker, selling handcrafted tables and cabinets at area craft fairs. He also loved camping and instilled in his family a deep appreciation for the outdoors, taking them to numerous destinations throughout Massachusetts and New Hampshire. He especially loved Provincetown and the Outer Cape, which the family visited every summer for decades.
George had the gift of gab. He was a wonderful conversationalist who always had a story to tell. He maintained a wide circle of cherished friends and colleagues, to whom he was devoted and with whom he socialized often.
He will be lovingly missed and remembered by his wife of 65 years, Carol; his three sons, Michael Morin and his wife, Tara, of Wallingford, CT, Christopher Morin and his wife, Elise, and stepson, Dylan, of San Francisco, and Jeffrey Morin and his wife, Ashley, of Northampton; his two grandchildren, Iris and Levi; his two sisters, Michelle Berthiaume and her husband, Norman, of Spencer and Marguerite Roache of Marlborough; his sister-in-law, Maryann Morin of Oxford, FL; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his older brother, Jean Paul Morin of Oxford, FL.
George’s family would like to express their gratitude to the wonderful staff at the Jewish Healthcare Center in Worcester for the compassionate care they provided during his final days.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather with the family from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 28, at the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden. A memorial service will follow at 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial with full military honors will take place at 1 p.m. on Monday, June 29 at the Massachusetts Veterans memorial Cemetery, 111 Glenallen Street, Winchendon. www.milesfuneralhome.com
