WORCESTER - Gertrude Tankanow, age 91, longtime resident of Worcester, died on Thursday, February 7, 2019 in the Jewish Healthcare Center.
Gert was the loving wife of 60 years to the late Edward Tankanow. She is survived by her two sons, Larry Tankanow and his wife, Roberta of Ann Arbor, Michigan and Steven Tankanow and his wife, Ana Flor of Worcester; her daughter, Sherri, wife of William Slater of Plympton; five grandchildren, Adam, Eric, Lisa, Alyse and Andrew; eight great-grandchildren, Alana, Eliot, Max, Lauren, Alexandra, Henry, Justin and Ella. She was predeceased by her two sisters, Esther Coppersmith and Edith Solomon. She was born in Worcester, a daughter of Abraham and Anna (Lichter) Katz and was a lifelong resident.
She was sales associate for Jordan Marsh for many years. Volunteering was an important part of her life along with travel and spending time with her family. She was a member of Congregation Beth Israel, Pioneer Women and was a life member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Jewish Healthcare Center.
Gert was blessed with a loving, caring family. She thoroughly enjoyed her canine visits by "Spock" and "Barney". She loved to play Mahjong and Rummikub.
The family appreciates the loving care she received from the staff of the Jewish Healthcare Center.
PRIVATE FUNERAL SERVICES WERE HELD ON SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 10 AT THE JEWISH HEALTHCARE CENTER UNDER THE DIRECTION OF RICHARD PERLMAN OF MILES FUNERAL HOME OF HOLDEN. Rabbi Michael Swarttz officiated. Burial was in B'Nai Brith Cemetery.
