WORCESTER – It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Grace Ann Carlson, 97. She died peacefully on July 12, 2025, at Knollwood Nursing Home in Worcester.
Grace was born in Pepperell, MA on May 26, 1928, the daughter of the late Margaret and Raymond Miller. She lived in Milford, then Hopedale and attended St. Mary’s High School in Milford. Upon graduating Grace went to work for Milford Saving’s Bank.
She was devoted to her children, grandchildren and family. Her greatest joy came when she was surrounded by those she loved. She was always there to listen and help whenever needed. She brought the same devotion to her job as social worker at Claflin Hill Nursing Home in Milford. She worked there for ten years, caring for patients and providing comfort and support.
Grace was a long-time member of the St. Patrick Church in Rutland and a devoted Catholic. She also loved the Red Sox and her trips to Cape Cod and the beach.
She is predeceased by her husband of sixty years, John A. Carlson, her son, John A. Carlson Jr and her daughter Susan Carlson Andreotti.
A cherished mother, grandmother and sister – Grace leaves behind her son, Ted J. Carlson of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, a daughter in law, Lauren Carlson of Rutland, a daughter Cheryl (Carlson) Piepul of Sandwich and her five grandchildren, JJ and Alexa Piepul, Brian and Alissa Carlson, Katelyn (Vigneau) Williamson and a great granddaughter Elliana Grace Santos. She also leaves a sister Marilyn Oats of Williamsburg, VA.
A calling hour will be held on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, from 9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. at Miles Funeral Home; 1158 Main Street Holden. A mass of Christian burial will follow the calling hour at 11:00 a.m. at St. Patrick Church, 258 Main Street Rutland with a burial to immediately follow at Rural Cemetery in Rutland.
