Gregory E. Muzzy

WAYLAND, MA / BOOTHBAY HARBOR, ME - Gregory “Greg” Muzzy, 80, passed away peacefully after a brief illness, on August 2, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. 

Born on August 8, 1945, in Holyoke, Massachusetts, Greg was the eldest son of Keith and Isabel Muzzy. He was raised in Holden, Massachusetts, where he developed the strong work ethic, curiosity, and practical wisdom that would guide him throughout his life. While attending Holden High School, he met Donna Eastman, the young woman who would become his wife, best friend, and lifelong partner. Together they shared 60 years of marriage, building a life grounded in love, family, adventure, and mutual support.

Greg graduated from Bowdoin College with a degree in Economics and later earned an MBA in Accounting from Northeastern University. He became a Certified Public Accountant and began his professional career at Price Waterhouse. Known for his analytical mind and ability to see opportunities where others saw challenges, Greg gravitated toward helping emerging businesses grow and succeed.

His career led him to Temple, Barker & Sloane, where he served as Chief Financial Officer and contributed to a wide range of significant business and public-sector initiatives. Whether working with entrepreneurs, established corporations, or public projects, Greg was respected for his integrity, sound judgment, and thoughtful leadership. Those who worked with him valued not only his expertise but also his steady temperament and willingness to mentor others.

While Greg enjoyed a successful career in finance and consulting, his greatest passion lay beyond the office and on the water. Sailing began as a personal interest and gradually became a defining part of his life. As his love of the sea deepened, he immersed himself in navigation, seamanship, and maritime history. What began with recreational sailing evolved into an extraordinary second career that combined his entrepreneurial instincts with his adventurous spirit.

In the early 1990s, Greg turned a vision into reality when he acquired a schooner and brought her to Boston Harbor, laying the foundation for what would become the Liberty Fleet of Tall Ships. Through determination, creativity, and countless hours of hard work, he built the enterprise into one of Boston's most recognizable maritime attractions. Over time, the fleet expanded to include vessels such as Liberty, Liberty Clipper, and Mimi, introducing thousands of passengers to the experience of traditional sailing.

Greg ultimately earned a United States Merchant Marine Captain's License and devoted himself to sharing the beauty and history of sailing with others. He welcomed guests

aboard for harbor cruises, educational programs, special celebrations, corporate outings, and coastal voyages. He participated in Tall Ship events and races, forged friendships throughout the maritime community, and became widely respected for his leadership, professionalism, and deep knowledge of the sea.

Throughout these years, Donna remained his steadfast partner. After raising their family, she joined Greg in the sailing business, helping manage operations and creating memorable experiences for guests. Together they built not only a successful company but also a lifestyle centered around hospitality, community, and their shared love of the ocean. This led to a lifetime love of Boothbay Harbor, Maine where they were longtime members of the Boothbay Harbor Yacht Club.

In 1976, Greg and Donna made their home in Wellesley, Massachusetts, where they raised their three children. Greg and Donna also became active members of the Wellesley Hills Congregational Church. No matter where his professional pursuits took him, family remained the center of Greg's life. He was a devoted husband, a supportive father, and later an enthusiastic grandfather who took great joy in following the lives, accomplishments, and interests of his grandchildren.

Greg is survived by his beloved wife, Donna Muzzy; his children, Chris (Stephanie) Muzzy, Scot (Bree) Muzzy, and Beth (Robb) Markell; his cherished grandchildren, Kyla, Kendell, Camyrn, James, Emma, and Theo; and his sisters, Gail and Kathy. He was predeceased by his brother, Keith. He is also survived by many extended family members, dear friends, former colleagues, and shipmates whose lives were enriched by knowing him.

Those who knew Greg will remember his generosity, optimism, and willingness to help others. His legacy lives on through the family he cherished, the businesses he helped build, the maritime community he enriched, and the countless people whose lives were touched by his wisdom, encouragement, and friendship. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered. A private family burial is planned.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Wellesley Hills Congregational Church, 207 Washington Street, Wellesley Hills, Massachusetts. A reception will follow.

Interment will be held privately.
