Harold A. Dennis

March 25, 1936 — February 12, 2013

OAKHAM – Harold A. Dennis, 76, passed away on Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at Quaboag Rehabilitation & Skilled Care Center in West Brookfield after an illness. He was born in Ware, the son of Kenneth K. and Dorothy (Aldrich) Dennis and was a long-time resident of Hardwick before moving to Oakham 15 years ago.

His wife of 31years, Sandra E. (Emmett) Dennis passed away in September of 2012. He leaves “his girls”, three daughters, Deborah A. Breen and her husband Michael of Hardwick, Kimberly K. Kelley and her husband Mark of Tampa, Florida and Amy-Jo Harper and her husband Rob of South Berwick, Maine; a sister, Sandra Allen of Hardwick; 13 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. A brother, John G. Dennis, predeceased him.

Harold graduated from Hardwick High School in 1954. He was an U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and later enlisted in the U.S. Air Force National Guard until 1961. He was a truck driver for 41 years at Lajoie Brothers in Oakham retiring in 1994. Previously, he worked for his dad’s company, Kenneth Dennis Painting in Hardwick. He was a volunteer fireman and was a policeman for 8 years for the Town of Hardwick. He volunteered for the Oakham Council on Aging delivering Meals on Wheels. Harold was a member of the Oakham Congregational Church and was a Past Master of the Mount Zion Lodge in Barre for over 50 years. He enjoyed traveling and electric trains and absolutely loved his “Puppa Dog”, Angel. He will be sadly missed by his loving family, the staff of his favorite dental office and his close friend, Jordan Dean.

The family would like to thank the staffs of Wing Hospice and Quaboag Rehab. & Skilled Care Center for their care and compassion given to Harold. A special thanks to all the visitors who spent time with Harold over these last few months.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, February 20, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. The funeral service for Mr. Dennis will be held on Thursday, February 21, at 11 a.m. in the Oakham Congregational Church, 4 Coldbrook Road, Oakham followed by a committal service at South Cemetery in Oakham.
