HOLDEN – Helen T. Wajda, 90, of Sawyer Lane, passed away unexpectedly at home on Wednesday, December 19, 2012.
She is survived by her nieces and nephews: Kathleen Finnerty and Jane Hallinan of Clinton, Laurie Cousins, Joanne Beyer, Alan Wajda and Robert Wajda and all their families and her sister-in-law Ann Hancock of Sterling. She was preceded in death by her sister Mary Hallinan, her brothers Chet and John Wajda, and her longtime partner Joseph Wisner.
Helen was born in Clinton, the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Kijek) Wajda and lived in Clinton until she moved to Holden over 60 years ago. She worked in Worcester for Harrington Richardson and Vellumoid. After her retirement, Helen volunteered at Hahnemann Hospital in Worcester. She was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Jefferson.
Auntie Helen will be lovingly remembered for her bold spirit and her boundless zest for living each day to the fullest. Her daily walks and being able to help her neighbors in their time of need were her keys to good health. She enjoyed knitting and her yard work and looked forward to traveling with her closest neighbors, friends and family. She was happiest when she was on the go.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 9 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday, December 26, at Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden, followed by a funeral service honoring Helen’s life at 11 a.m. Burial will be private at Grove Cemetery in Holden.
