STERLING – V. Helen (Maki) O'Malley, 88, passed away on Friday, August 5, 2011 at Riverside Terrace Healthcare in Lancaster after an illness.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, John T. O'Malley; two sons, John E. O'Malley and his wife Pamela of Holden and Richard P. O'Malley of Phillipston; two grandsons, Richard P. O'Malley, Jr. and his wife Leigh of Winchendon and Jeffrey A. O'Malley of Phillipston; a great-grandson, Killain O'Malley; and five nephews. A son, Brian T. O'Malley, a brother, Edwin Maki and two sisters, Lillian Langelier and Helvie Glancey, predeceased her.
She was born in Oakham, the daughter of Oscar and Liisa (Maki) Maki and has lived in Sterling the past 51 years. Helen grew up in Hubbardston and graduated from Athol High School in 1939. She was an assembler at Norton Company in Worcester during World War II. She was a member of the Greendale Peoples Church in Worcester and also enjoyed dancing, reading, traveling and her two cats Midnight and Cali.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a calling hour on Monday, August 8th, from 10 to 11 a.m., followed by a service at 11 a.m. in the Miles-Sterling Funeral Home and Tribute Center, 100 Worcester Road (Rte. 12), Sterling. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery, Clinton Road (Rte. 62), Sterling. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Town of Sterling Fire Department, Ambulance Fund, P. O. Box 515, Sterling, MA 01564.
