WEST BROOKFIELD/RUTLAND - Herbert R. Enman, 92, died peacefully on Saturday, November 1, 2014 at Quaboag Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center, West Brookfield, following an illness.
Herb was born in Worcester, son of the late Angus H. and Evangeline S. (Colby) Enman. He graduated from Commerce High School and attended classes at Texas A & M and later the School of Industrial Management at WPI, Worcester. He was a proud veteran of World War II, serving in the US Navy. At a recent ceremony, Herb was presented with the WWII Victory and Theater service medals that he did not receive following his discharge. He enjoyed a 40 year career in the manufacturing field, first with Rockwood Sprinkler and then Smith Valve Company in Worcester and Westborough, where he retired as a purchasing agent in 1986. Herb was a voracious reader of history books, and most recently could be found enjoying books on tape. He truly was devoted to his family, and will be dearly missed by them.
Herb was predeceased by his beloved wife of 67 years, Marcia J. (Gordon) Enman in 2013. He leave his five children, Nancy Scott and her husband, Robert of West Brookfield, Richard Enman of Greely, CO, Janet Enman of Rutland, Rebecca Enman of Leicester and Amy Cummings and her husband, Paul of Rutland; his sister, Catherine Nelson of Erie, PA; his five grandchildren, Jennifer (Scott) DuBos, Robyn Scott, Gregory Truscott, Samuel and Alison Cummings; his two great grandchildren, Shannon and Adam Tweraser; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Jessie McCallie.
A memorial celebration of Herb and Marcia’s lives will be held on Saturday, November 15, at 11:30 a.m. at First Congregational Church of West Brookfield, 36 North Main Street, West Brookfield. A reception will follow in the parish hall. Burial in Rural Cemetery, Rutland will be private. Memorial donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Sharing Cupboard, FCC-West Brookfield, 36 N.
