Ilma M. ''Mae'' (Lyra) Strand

WORCESTER – Ilmi M. “Mae” (Lyra) Strand, 91 of Worcester died on Saturday, January 14, 2006, in University Commons Nursing Home after an illness.
Her husband, Russell E. Strand, died in 1949. She leaves a son, Brian R. Strand and his wife Mary Ellen of Rutland; a daughter, Ann-Marie Jasiak and her husband Charles of Boylston; five grandchildren, Tammy Allen, Audra McNamara, Jessica Bourque, Matthew and Tara Strand; four great-grandchildren, Brooke, Shaye, Ryan and Cullen; many nieces and nephews. Six brothers and sisters predeceased her. She was born in Worcester the daughter of Matti and Maria (Katajamaki) Lyra and lived in Worcester all her life.
Mrs. Strand worked for Upjohn Healthcare in Worcester for 10 years. Previously she worked many years for the Belmont Home in Worcester. She was a member of the former Finnish Lutheran Church in Worcester and enjoyed art including pencil drawing.
The funeral service for Mrs. Strand will be held at 12 noon on Tuesday, January 17, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, 217 Richards Avenue (Rte. 56), Paxton. A calling hour will be held from 11 to 12 noon prior to the service in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Massachusetts Chapter, 311 Arsenal Street, Watertown, MA 02472.
