HOLDEN - James A. “Jim” Brown, III, 81, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 22, 2025, at UMass Memorial Medical Center - University Campus, surrounded by his loving family.
Born and raised in Worcester, Jim was the cherished son of the late James A. and Marilyn (Bird) Brown. He attended Worcester Public Schools and went on to earn his bachelor’s degree from Clark University and a Master’s degree from Worcester State College. On June 13, 1970, Jim married the love of his life, Carlenne (Elgh), and together they shared 54 wonderful years of marriage.
Jim dedicated over four decades of service to the Norton Company, where he worked in Inventory and Production Control for 41 years. He was deeply respected by colleagues for his work ethic, integrity, and warm nature.
Jim had a passion for history and genealogy and found great joy in learning about his family’s lineage. A voracious reader, he also loved spending time with his beloved grandsons, who brought immense pride and happiness into his life.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Carlenne Brown; his daughter, Jennifer Manning, and her wife, Susan Manning, of Worcester; and his adored grandchildren, Jameson and Dylan Manning. He also leaves behind his sister, Cynthia Brown, and her wife, Karen Butt, of Salisbury; his brothers, Barry Brown and his wife, Joanne, of Hubbardston, and Michael Brown and his husband, Jonathan Cronin, of Seattle, WA. Jim was predeceased by his brother, Terry Brown.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather with Jim’s family for a Calling Hour on Friday, May 30, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden. A Funeral Service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will take place immediately afterward at Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton.
