Worcester – James M. McGuire, 61, died unexpectedly on Sunday, May 10, 2026. He was born in Worcester, MA, the son of the late James and Sally (Harrington) McGuire.
James was a graduate from Worcester Vocational Technical High School, class of 83, and then later served his community faithfully as a dedicated firefighter throughout many departments over the years including Princeton, Spencer, and Rutland. After his time in the fire department James continued to work in EMS and eventually settled at the Department of Developmental Services, where he worked in group homes throughout Worcester County.
James and his former wife Andrea (Fontaine)Anderson share three children in which together they built a life in Rutland. James was a devoted father and dedicated himself to caring for his kids.
James was also known for his love of service, whether battling fires as a firefighter, ensuring safety and support as an EMT, bringing love and care to those who just needed a little help in everyday living, or simply sharing a story and a hearty laugh to brighten the day. James was a father who deeply loved his family, and was always there when they needed him the most. He was a hero in the world, and hero at home, and now he rests alongside his heroes.
James was predeceased by his brother Charles McGuire, his sister Nancy and her husband Patrick of Rutland.
James will be lovingly missed and remembered by his daughter Alison McGuire; his son, James McGuire and his wife, Katie of Oceanside CA; his son, Lukas McGuire and his partner, Megan of Lake Panasoffkee FL; his nieces Stephanie Strathmeyer and her husband Leandro Strathmeyer, and Amanda Woods; as well as his four grandchildren.
Family and Friends are invited to attend calling hours from 10 to 12pm on Friday, May 15, at Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden, followed by a service honoring James’s life at 12pm. Interment will be held at a later date in Parker II Cemetery in Princeton.
