HOLDEN – Janina Z. (Votruba) Tawczynski, 88, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, February 10, 2019. Her loving husband of 43 years, Leopold Tawczynski, passed in 1996.
She leaves her children, Eve Marie, Tadeusz “Ted” A. and his wife, Ellen and Leopold T. Tawczynski; her grandchildren, Peter and his wife, Priya, Corey, Jessica, Nathan and Jason Tawczynski ; her great-grandchildren, Bradley, Kinsley, and Nicholas Tawczynski; her sister, Elizabeth Ermanski and her husband, Walter; and many nieces, nephews and close family friends. She also leaves her brother-in-law, Tomasz Tawczynski; her niece, Maria Cwiertnia and her husband, Leszek; and more extended family in Poland. She was predeceased by her sister, Maria and her husband, Marian Klauzinski and their son, Henry G.; and her brother, Julian and his wife, Maria Votruba.
Janina was born in Lesko, Poland, the daughter of Filip J. and Catherine (Kotyk) Votruba. She was taken to Germany in 1944, and lived in a Polish camp in Bavaria. In Germany, she was a member of the scouts organization, sang in the church choir and continued her education. She immigrated to the United States in 1951 and married Leopold in 1952. She worked at Paul Revere Insurance Company until her retirement. She previously belonged to Our Lady of Czestochowa Church in Worcester and since 1967 had been a member of St. Mary’s Church in Jefferson. She belonged to St. Mary’s choir for more than 30 years, the former Alpha Club of UNUM and the Polish National Alliance of the United States.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, February 15th at St. Mary’s Church, 114 Princeton Street, Jefferson, MA 01522. There are no calling hours, please go directly to the church. A private burial will be held this spring. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Czestochowa, 34 Ward Street, Worcester, MA 01610, or to St. Mary’s Church. Arrangements are under the care of the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden.
