Jo-Ann M. (Noone) Nelson

April 18, 1941 — January 28, 2022

HOLDEN – Jo-ann M. (Noone) Nelson, 80, passed away peacefully on Friday, 28, 2022, at UMass Memorial Healthcare – Memorial Campus after an illness. She was born in Hartford, CT, the daughter of James and Josephine (Friguglietti) Noone and had lived in Worcester before moving to Holden in 2004.

Her loving husband of 58 years, Paul P. Nelson, passed away in 2020. She leaves her son, Sean Nelson and his wife, Julianne of Rutland; her daughter, Lisa Bonzey and her husband, Charles of Millbury; her brothers, Robert Noone and his wife, Kathy of Worcester, Michael Noone and his wife, Mary of KS; her sisters, Mary Noone of Millbury, and Eileen Bonczyk and her husband, Paul of Worcester; five grandchildren, Kristin, Robert and Lindsey Bonzey, Liam, and Aidan Nelson; her great-grandchildren, Jaydin Bonzey and Elise Perez; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, James Noone, Jr. and her sisters, Margaret King and Barbara Donoghue.

Jo-ann graduated from Sacred Heart High School and earned her bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Worcester State College. She was a nurse at AdCare Hospital in Worcester for over 30 years before retiring in 2019. Previously, she worked at Hahnemann Hospital. Jo-ann was an active member of St. George’s Church in Worcester and enjoyed playing cards, shopping, and traveling. She was an avid Red Sox fan and loved Broadway shows. Most of all, Jo-ann was devoted to her family and was best known for her many kind acts of charity.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, February 3rd in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden. Funeral services for Jo-ann will be held on Friday, February 4th with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. George’s Church, 38 Brattle Street, Worcester. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, appropriate social distancing and wearing of a mask will be required. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, or Wounded Warrior Project, P.O Box 758516, Topeka, KS 66675.
