John J. Poplis

PAXTON – John J. Poplis, 88, passed away on Saturday, April 28, 2012 at St. Vincent Hospital after an illness.

He leaves his wife of 53 years, Barbara A. (Plankey) Poplis; a son, Roger D. Poplis and his wife Katrina of Holliston; a daughter, Linda J. Pepin and her husband John of Paxton; two grandchildren, Stephanie and Adam Pepin; and several nephews and nieces. John was predeceased by twelve siblings.

John was born in Worcester, the son of Joseph and Alice (Lucas) Poplis and lived in Paxton for over fifty years. He was a corporal in the Army Air Force during World War II serving with the 882nd Air Engineer Squadron. He was a machinist at Jamesbury Corp in Worcester, where he retired. Previously, he was a linotype operator at Colonial Press in Clinton for many years. John was a parishioner of St. Columba Church in Paxton and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Funeral services for Mr. Poplis will be held on Thursday, May 3, with a 10:30 a.m. Mass in St. Columba Church, 18 Richards Ave., Paxton. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden.
