WORCESTER - John "Jack" Roscoe died peacefully surrounded by family at Knollwood Nursing Center, on January 10th. He leaves his wife of 56 years, Barbara Roscoe (Barbara Jane Pulaski) of Pittsfield; his daughter, Claudia Roscoe Nash and husband, Craig Nash of Millbury; daughter, Jennifer Roscoe of Watertown; and grandsons, Adam and Zachary Nash. He also leaves his sister, Mary Callahan of Pittsfield and many nieces and nephews.
Jack was born in North Adams to John and Mary Roscoe. He graduated from Saint Joseph High School in 1949 and attended North Adams State College. He served as a MML3 in the U.S. Navy and was aboard the U.S.S. Raby during the Korean War. In 1955 he began his lifelong career at Massachusetts Electric Company, retiring as a General Foreman in 1993.
Jack was altruistic in nature, serving as a Boy Scout leader, teaching woodworking to mentally challenged adults at the Center of Hope, and volunteering as a sous chef at the Salvation Army. In addition, Jack was a big brother with the Big Brother Big Sister organization.
Jack's greatest passion was building houses. A self-taught and skilled carpenter, he built his first home in Cheshire, and later a home in Wells, ME. He was happiest working at Habitat for Humanity and assisted in the construction of hundreds of homes in MA, CT, FL, TN, and in Domincan Republic.
He loved to bake, sample Worcester diners, and looked forward to early morning coffee with his buddies. He enjoyed Sunday drives with his love, Barbara, cherished his daughters' sense of humor and reveled in the antics of his grandsons.
There will be a "memory reception" at Briarwood Retirement Community on Wednesday, January 15th from 4:00 pm–6:00pm. We encourage his friends and family to attend and reminisce.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Jack will be held at Saint Christopher's Catholic Church on West Boylston Street, Worcester on Thursday, January 16 at 11:00 am.
Another reception will be held at the Hot Dog Ranch in North Adams on February 8th at 1:00 pm.
