Joseph J. Antinovitch, Sr.

November 8, 1939 — June 17, 2025

Holden - Joseph J. Antinovitch, Sr., 85, passed away peacefully on June 17, 2025, surrounded by his loving family at the Jewish Healthcare Center in Worcester.

Born and raised in Worcester, he was the son of the late John and Genevieve (Malinousky) Antinovitch. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Jacqueline (Poitras) Antinovitch, and his grandson, Stephen Antinovitch.

Joe leaves behind a devoted family, including his four children: Mary Brytowski and her husband Julian of Worcester; Joseph Antinovitch, Jr. and his wife Mary of Brookfield; Michele Gifford and her husband David Carlson of North Grafton; and Raymond Antinovitch and his wife Jen of Worcester. He was a proud grandfather to 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-granddaughters.

A graduate of Commerce High School in Worcester, Joe went on to serve his country with distinction in the United States Navy as a Shipfitter, Third Class. He was stationed aboard the USS Enterprise, the Navy's first nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, and received an Honorable Discharge along with a Good Conduct Award. His training in welding during his service led to a successful career spanning over 40 years in the field. In recognition of his service, he was honored with the Quilt of Valor in 2023.

Joe was a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus, serving proudly as a Fourth Degree Honor Guard for over 15 years. He was also an active member of American Legion Post #42.

Continuing his commitment to public service, Joe joined the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, where he held leadership roles as Vice Flotilla Commander and Flotilla Commander until 2020. He served as both a Vessel Examiner and an instructor in boating safety, dedicating many weekends to keeping Central Massachusetts waterways safe.

In retirement, Joe trained was an instructor for the American Red Cross and the American Heart Association, teaching CPR and First Aid throughout the state. A gifted woodworker, he spent countless hours creating intricate scrollwork pieces, which he generously gave to family, friends, and the community.

A man of deep faith, Joe was a parishioner of St. Mary's Church in Jefferson and a familiar face at the Holden Senior Center, where he enjoyed fellowship and community.

The Antinovitch family extends their deepest gratitude to the staff at the Jewish Healthcare Center for the exceptional care, kindness, and respect shown to Joe in his final days.

Calling hours will be held on Monday, June 23, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, June 24, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, 114 Princeton Street, Jefferson. Burial with military honors will follow at Worcester County Memorial Park, 217 Richards Avenue, Paxton.
