Jefferson

JEFFERSON - Kathleen Kersus, 76, of Jefferson, MA passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at Tufts Medical Center on November 7, 2025. Kathy was born and raised in Worcester, the daughter of the late James A. Dorsey, Jr. and Kathleen (Garvey) Dorsey.

She first met her husband, Gerald Kersus, on the Edgemere No. 14 bus in the 8th grade. They later married and spent 54 wonderful years together. Besides Gerry, Kathy leaves her son Matthew and his wife Renata of Framingham; her grandchildren, Abigail and James; as well as her sister Lenore Monahan of Worcester; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. In addition to her parents, Kathy is predeceased by her brothers, John and James Dorsey.

Kathy graduated from Notre Dame Academy and received degrees from Quinsigamond Community College and Brookdale Community College. Kathy and Gerry lived in Wall, NJ for over 40 years before moving back to the Worcester area in 2013. Kathy worked for many years for the Asbury Park Press (NJ) as a sales executive. She served on the Board of Directors for the Southern Monmouth County (NJ) Chamber of Commerce and volunteered for Habitat for Humanity, as well as the Monmouth and Ocean County Food Bank. She loved being at the beach at Spring Lake, NJ, Sea Grit, NJ, and at Skaket Beach on the Cape.

Kathy loved helping her community, whether it was working with Habitat for Humanity, local food banks in New Jersey, or the Visitation House in Worcester. Kathy and Gerry would also build, decorate, and then auction off dollhouses for charity, letting Kathy’s creativity and artistic skill help those who needed it.

Kathy also used those skills to bring joy to those she loved, with amazing cakes and award-winning Halloween costumes for her son. She created amazing confectionery masterpieces for her grandchildren, who brought her so much joy over the last nine years. The highlight of the parties for most was seeing what Kathy made, but for her, it was seeing the reaction on Abby and James’ faces.

Family and friends are invited to calling hours on Friday, November 14th from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM at Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street in Holden.
