LUNENBURG/RUTLAND – Kenneth Michael Gordon, 76, beloved husband of Judith (Mulkern) Gordon, passed away peacefully on January 31, 2019 at The Highlands in Fitchburg after suffering complications of Lewy Body Dementia. Born on October 4, 1942 to Kenneth and Elizabeth (Crowley) Gordon, Ken was raised in Worcester by his father and second wife Rita (Harding) Gordon after Elizabeth’s passing.
He was a 1960 graduate of North High School in Worcester. Ken worked as an installer for Verizon for many years and was a member of the Verizon Pioneers. After his retirement, he continued to use his skills working for Orius, which provided consulting services to Verizon installers.
Ken moved to Rutland to raise his family and was a dedicated member of St. Patrick’s Church. He was active in town politics and was the Chairman of the Rutland Cultural Committee. As a member of the Rutland fire Brigade, Ken also served as a volunteer EMT. Ken was an avid reader and was always interested in national and international politics and he followed the stock exchange. He was a member of the Rutland Coffee Group at the Center Diner where he was given the nickname “Rush”. After retirement, Ken traveled extensively throughout the United States including Alaska and Hawaii. Each summer he enjoyed spending time in Wells, Maine where his favorite activity was walking on the beach.
He will be lovingly missed and remembered by his wife of 18 years, Judith; his three sons, Kenneth W. Gordon of Worcester, Sean Gordon and his wife, Akemi of Poulsbo, Washington, and Michael Gordon and his wife, Aimee of Annapolis, MD; his two daughters, Elizabeth Gordon-Hughes and her wife, Belinda of Lunenburg and Patricia Morton and her husband, Rodney of Canal Winchester, OH; two brothers, Donald Gordon and his wife, Gail of Rutland and Bruce Gordon of Worcester; his grandchildren, Seamus, Therese, Tenichi, Sean, Kalen, Kaitlynn, Michael Ryan, Isabella, and one expected this spring; a niece, Kimberly and a nephew Christopher. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his first wife, Anne Marie (Korostynski) Gordon.
Throughout his adult life Kenneth fought stoically to live with diabetes, heart problems, cancer and Lewy Body Dementia. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Lewy Body Dementia Association, 912 Killian Hill Road, SW, Kilburn, GA 30047 or to the charity of your choice.
The family wishes to thank the staff at The Highlands for the professional and loving care they extended to Ken while he was in their care.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather with Ken’s family from 4 to 7 pm on Tuesday, February 12 at the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am on Wednesday, February 13 in St. Patrick’s Church, 258 Main Street, Rutland. Ken will be laid to rest in Rural Cemetery in Rutland in the springtime.
